The Vice President is in Tehran with other members of the Non-Aligned Movement to discuss the issue of global peace. Vice President Namadi Sambo arrived in Tehran, the Iranian capital, on Wednesday night for the 16th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by Umar Sani, the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media. The NAM is made up of countries that proclaimed neutrality during the cold war between Western countries, led by the United States of America, and countries loyal to the former Soviet Union. Nigeria is a member of the movement. The statement noted that Mr. Sambo, who is representing President Goodluck Jonathan at the summit, was received at the Tehran International Airport by the Nigerian Ambassador to Iran, Tukur Mani; the Minister of State (1) for Foreign Affairs, Viola Onwuleri; and the Iranian Minister of Education, Haji Bobai. It added that the two-day summit is being attended by all the 120 member countries, and 21 observer countries, as well as the United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon. The theme of the summit is on the maintenance of global peace.
