Woman chop off another woman's nose for sleeping with her husband

Residents of Adealu  street in Dopemu area of Lagos recently watched with dismay the shameful fight between two house wives over accusation and counter accusation of adultery.  Both women identified as Mrs Ruka Amoha and MadamYemi were residents of  House Number 13 on the said street and had lived happily together until one of  them started suspecting  the other of having illicit affairs with her husband.

For some  residents of the area, the fight did not come to them as a surprise because of their  assumption  that Madam Yemi was allegedly seeing Mr. Wasiu Amoha,  husband to Mrs Ruka, secretly. But for lack of concrete evidence to substantiate the claim,as both  Wasiu and Yemi had not been caught pants down, Mrs Ruka could not confront her  openly.

Instead, she reportedly resorted to passing uncomplimentary comments whenever she sees Yemi.  It  was therefore, on the strength of this that Madam Yemi reportedly  challenged Mrs. Amoha over unprintable comments about her and demanded an explanation.  And  like a keg of gun powder waiting to explode at the slightest touch,  Mrs Amoha went wild and soon, both were locked in a fight.  Mid-way into the show of shame,  Madam  Yemi reportedly yelled, “Yeh, she has chopped off my nose, she has chopped off my nose!”

Neighbours who were attracted to the scene struggled to free Madam Yemi from Mrs Amoha’s grips but were taken aback on sighting  blood gushing out from her nose.  She was reportedly rushed to  the  General Hospital,  Orile Agege where doctors battled to stop the bleeding. But as you read this piece, the mother of four according to doctors, would be  needing a plastic surgery.

Policemen from Oke-Odo Division who were contacted, stormed the area and arrested Mrs Ruka Amoha,where she reportedly confirmed the rumour that Yemi was having an affair with her husband, Wasiu.

At the station, Ruka attributed the endless quarrel in her home to the clandestine relationship existing between her husband and Yemi, a development she said led to her husband denying her of  his matrimonial obligation. However, Yemi on her part , denied Ruka’s claim, wondering why she could go into any extra-marital affair with a neighbour when she has her own husband .

According to Yemi , “ Let  her tell the world why she attacked me. I am not into any relationship with her husband. Why would I, when I am married . How is that even possible when my husband and I live  in the same compound with them? I believe she is merely jealous of my marriage because I am living peacefully with my husband. But that is not the same with hers, as they are always engaged in quarrels which usually resulted in fights.

She ambushed me . I was  not aware she was lurking in a corner”, Yemi said with difficulty. Effort to get her talk more failed as she apparently tried to adjust to her present condition.  Ruka’s husband who could not hide his disappointment, corroborated Yemi’s claim, denying having an affair with a  married woman. Rather, he said the incessant quarrel in the home was caused by what he described as his wife’s ill manner.

Ruka was thereafter charged before an Ikeja Magistrate Court sitting at Abule Egba , last Friday for assault and inflicting injury on Yemi. She pleaded not guilty to the  offense which runs contrary to Section 244 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr. O.A. Komolafe granted her bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum with a condition that one of  them must be her  blood relation. She was however, remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when she would  fulfill  her bail condition.  The matter  has been adjourned to August, 24 2012 for mention.
