The
law is given as God's principle of
living and justice; while testimony is the evidence or proof of the power and
the authority of the law. Testimony is a written or unwritten events of what
the Lord has done and is still doing in the life of His redeemed people. It is
a record of events told by those who were eye witnesses, heard and known by them,
and which will not be hidden from their children and generations to come. The
testimony is about the praise worthy acts of the Lord.
The primacy of God's testimony is stated in
Ps. 78:5. In the history of God's dealing with the children of Israel, He began
to build His testimony when He separated Abraham from his family, kindred and
country-Gen. 12:1-7, to the land of Canaan where he lived all his life as a
pilgrim. This testimony continued through Isaac and was finally established in
Jacob. This fact accounts for the reason why the Hebrew nation is called after
his names- Jacob and Israel.
It was the
transformed life and record f Jacob that produced the testimony of God's saving
grace in his life and in the nation that bear the name - Israel
