THE DANGERS IN THE PROPHETIC MINISTRY

The prophetic ministry is one of the most important ministries of the five-fold ministries that was given to the church. Its need has gone from important to crucial. People today are so desperate to hear a supernatural word about their future that many are devoting themselves to psychic power. God's true prophets have been gifted to fulfill this need to let people hear a message from God. The lack of this crucial ministry has given the devil opportunity too quickly fill the void., fulfilling the adage which says ''if you deny a man food, he will gabble poison''. The church of God has been entrusted with the gift of prophecy, words of wisdom and words of knowledge far superior to anything the devil is producing through physics. Yet, much of the church remains either unaware of this gift or is afraid of it.
The prophet's calling is to equip the church to know the Lord's voice and to be used in prophetic gifts- 1 Cor. 14:1-5; Eph. 4:11-12. To release prophecy throughout the church is understandingly a terrifying thought to so many church leaders today and the consequences of not releasing this ministry is quickly becoming more destructive than ever.
In almost every congregation, there are at least two or three people who have been wounded by the misuse of prophecy- many Christians have also been wounded by a pastor at one time or another. Do we then throw the prophetic ministry or the pastoral ministry away?
The prophetic ministry is not the panacea for everything that troubles the church, but it is necessary,  else the Lord would not have given it as a gift to the church. This gift helps us to release all other gifts and to remain intimate with God as the quality of any relationship is based on communication. Prophecy is a primary way that the Lord communicates with His people but it does not take the place of the scriptures which is meant to establish sound doctrine and neither was the scriptures given to take the place of the Hoy spirit in our lives.
Because this ministry is so important, it is under constant attack. The most deadly attack always come from Christian leaders who have either been wounded by a misuse of the prophetic ministry or pseudo-prophetic. This trend sows doubt about the prophetic ministry and the genuine prophets are hence difficult to identify.
Those called into the ministry of prophecy must be open to corrections from the members of the body and not cut themselves off from it.
