THANKSGIVING- PSALMS 50:7-15

Thanksgiving is the expression of our hearty thanks to God. The sin of ingratitude begins from our failure to hear from God. Hearing is one of the decisive five senses of man which God uses to communicate His messages with man- Matt. 7:24; 11:15; Rev. 3:6. The sin of ingratitude to God is being committed by the people of God. There is therefore a need for change. The believer who is guilty of this sin should see himself as standing in the court of heaven and God standing against him as a witness.
The Lord is the rightful owner of the universe and its contents. He does not need our permission to take what belongs to Him, for we are part of the contents of the universe. Among all creations, God is specifically mindful of man whom He made in His image, that is why man is His special focus both in redemption and relationship. Redemption brings man into terms with God through salvation, justification, sanctification and adoption. Thanksgiving speaks of the relationship between the believer and His God. The best offering to God in thanksgiving is not material thing but our human personality which are our spirit, soul and body.

The characteristics of true thanksgiving are offering of thanks from the heart- The heart must be the moving force in thanksgiving to God. This is because the heart is the centre of our personality and the very throne where God should sit to rule in our life- 2 Cor. 8:12; Faithfulness to God with our money and material things- God requires our money and material things for the propagation of His work on earth. We are expected to display this quality of heart in thanksgiving- 2 Cor. 9:6-11.
