The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old suspected cult leader, Abiodun John, in possession of an illegal firearm during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Akute/Olambe Road in the Ifo Local Government Area of the state. The command's spokesman, Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement sent to journalists on Friday.
According to Odutola, John was arrested on Thursday at about 3:30 pm after police officers from the Ajuwon Division received a tip-off from members of the public who suspected him and his accomplices of being involved in cult activities. The officers pursued the vehicle, a Venza car with dealer number URSMOT AUTOS 4657DLA, and stopped it in front of the Osaro Mobile Filling Station.
During the search of the vehicle, two locally-made pistols and three live cartridges were discovered in John's possession. The police have commenced a preliminary investigation into the matter and have taken John into custody along with the seized items. The case will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
The arrest of the suspected cult leader is a significant breakthrough in the police's efforts to combat cultism and violent crime in the state. The Ogun State Police Command has been working tirelessly to rid the state of cultists and other criminal elements, and this arrest is a testament to their dedication and hard work.
The police have urged members of the public to continue to provide them with useful information that can help in the fight against crime and cultism. The command has also assured the public that it will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the state is safe and secure for all residents.
