Absolute obedience to God involves diligence and hearkening to His voice, doing what is right in God's sight, giving attention to all His commands and keeping of His statuses- Ex. 15:26. Ministry involves service to God's people but the ministry is that which is done unto God- Acts 13:1-2. All the characteristics of spiritual authority is the ability to touch and move the heart of God. When we touch and move God's heart, we then posses the authority that is greater than any spiritual or governmental office, This is because the Lord is not as religious as we tend to be.
In
the story recorded in John 11:20-36, Mary who was able to move God so
profoundly was just as wrong in her reproach of Him as Martha had been.
When
work becomes the basic reason for drawing close to the Lord, then, we are
succumbing to the ''Martha spirit''. This is the spirit behind replacing work
for intimacy- Lk. 10:38-42. There are times when we need to work for Him, and
the Lord of course loved Martha very much. Many churches and ministries cannot
exist without the Marthas. But when we become too busy working for Him that we
forget that sitting at His feet is the highest priority, we ar truly missing
the greatest part.
We cannot expect to hear His voice if we do
not worship Him. The most telltale sign of what we truly worship is found out
in what we do with our free time. When was the last time we took a day off for
prayer and fasting? The answer to that question will explain why we have so
much difficulty in knowing the voice of God or discerning the truth from error.
Once
we are truly intimate with God, we will be able to recognize His voice first
through studying of the word and the help of the Holy Spirit.
