Comfort is a state of being
free from suffering, anxiety and pain. It is a state of contentment and
well-being. Comfort also means help, or kindness given to someone who is
suffering or something that brings relief or help. Comfort is also seen as
consolation.
There is need for comfort
in the lives of men, women, boys and girls, especially those who are engaged in
the spiritual race and warfare for God's kingdom. The Lord provides this great
need and also supplies it very timely in the lives of His children.
The source of comfort is
God. He alone blesses, and from Him, all blessings flow. God is a God of
mercies, the God of comfort who sent His spirit in the form of the Holy Spirit
to comfort us-Jn. 14:15-18; 16:7-15; Rom. 1:3-5; Ps. 2:7-12; 110:1-2; Heb.
1:4-14.
God is very present in the
time of trouble- Ps. 46:1-3; He comforts our tribulation, burden anguish,
affliction, persecution and trouble. It is the Lord's desire to aid us in the
time of tribulation.
As the suffering of Christ
abounds in us, in the same pace and measure, God's consolation abounds with us
by Christ Jesus through the Holy spirit the divine comforter. The more we
suffer for Christ, the more grace and comfort that abounds in us.
The purpose of comfort is to
make us comfort others also who are in trouble. When we are afflicted, God uses
it to work out the salvation and consolation of others. God makes the best to
come out of our troubles; hence patient enduring is needful so that the best
can be created out of our situations- Rom. 8:28. Divine comfort is given as an
example and encouragement through the suffering of others. God teaches us to be
steadfast in Him when we suffer so that we can partake of His consolation.
This is a time when
troubles take new turns against the a servant of God. It is a time when the
gates of hell break loose to want to kill God's servant- Apostle Paul and
others with him suffered it beyond measure. They were pressed so much so that
they felt death sentences had been passed on them and the only thing that kept
them going was their trust in God. Our fears are overcome by the word of God
and His sure promises that never fail- Ps. 91:9-16; 107:3-16.
The divine comforter and
comfort is for God's people who suffer for Christ and for righteousness sake.
