A remnant talks about the
small part of something that remains after all others have been destroyed or
wasted. The believing remnant refers to those who remain faithful to God after
all others have compromised their faith and fallen from God's grace. God always
preserve a remnant in every turn of event to use them for a new beginning- Ezra
9:8; Isa. 1:9, 11:11; Ezek. 6:8. The believing remnant are those that remain
faithful to God when all others are serving Baal-1 Kgs. 19:18; They are those
who continue in the narrow way after they have entered through the strait gate-
Matt. 7:13-14. They are those who endure to the end and they shall be saved-
Matt. 24:13; Rom. 9:23.
The qualities that make
them believing remnants are as follows: They remain faithful to God when others
compromise with the world around them; They understand that the ways and
thoughts of God are different from the ways and thoughts of men; They have
chosen to walk and follow that narrow and hard way of salvation that leads to
life- Matt. 7:13-14; They have denied themselves and taken up their cross daily
to follow Christ- Mk.8:34-38; They do not follow the multitude rather they
follow God and His word- Ex. 23:1-2, Isa. 8:11; They do not say what the
majority are saying, rather they say what God wants them to say- Isa.8:11-12;
They do not fear what others fear, rather they fear the Lord- Isa. 8:12-13; They
are not yoked together with unbelievers, rather they separate themselves for
holy living-2 Cor. 6:14, 7:1. They are called the believing remnants because
they have answered the call of salvation and holy living- Lev. 20:7; 1 Pet.
1:14-16; 2 Pet.3:11.
The believing remnants are
set for divine restoration. The restoration of God begins with them to bring in
a new beginning for the people of God- Ezra 9:8; Isa. 1:9; 11:11; Joel 2:32.
They are set for signs and wonders among the people of the world - Isa. 8:17-18.
They are the sons and daughters of resurrection and restoration; through them,
their land is restored and healed- 2 Chron. 7:14. They are over comers and
heaven bound.
The enemy threatens these
remnants and wants to make them live in
fear. The mode of the enemy's threats includes entering into or forming
alliance against God's chosen people; hey form different companies and
divisions of aggressive operations to destabilize the faith of these remnants-
Isa. 7:1-2; Ps. 2:1-3. The devil also strategizes by trying to weaken their
courage so as to make them easy preys- Josh. 1:5-9; Ezek. 2:6, 3:8-9, The devil
gathers his principalities and powers, spiritual wickedness in high places and
the rulers of the darkness of this world to take counsel against God's
believing remnants - Eph. 6:10-18. The enemies make pronouncements and decrees
of threats. The intention is to create psychological false image of themselves
in the midst of the believers; it is their way of carrying out psychological
warfare to want to create a mental defeat in the minds of God's people.
These strategies of the
enemy can be countered by way of
interruption and objection- this is only achieved by a believer who is bold and
faith-filled. Therefore, every believer should address their enemies whether
they are spiritual enemies or physical enemies; Also, using God's word to
counter the enemy's threats and making it God's battle- Ex. 14:13-14.
Our dependence in life will
determine how our lives will be and how they will end. Those who depend on
idols will be like idols while those who depend on God will radiate His
victorious life and glory. God's way is the only way to live. His instruction
is the only way to overcome the enemy's threat that abounds around us. False
dependence will remove one from God's way and instructions. It is a way of
breaking the hedge of God's protection and allowing the enemies the chance to
kill and destroy.
The consequences of false
independence are s follows: They shall stumble- Ps. 91:11-12, 37:23-24; They
shall fall- Deut. 28:1-4, Gal. 5:4; Jude 24-25. They shall be broken and torn
in pieces; they will be confounded, confused, weakened and defeated; They will
be snared-Ps. 91:3, 1 Tim. 3:7; They shall be taken into captivity- Jn. 8:12;
11:19-21.
The awful effect of these
consequences is that they live and walk in spiritual darkness; they are
confused; they are hungry and oppressed through God's judgment; they fret and
are vexed through their trust in demons who promised them help; they will curse
their king and God i their miseries; they will look for help and find none;
they have trouble and spiritual darkness and anguish to the point of utter
despair and death.
True dependence on God
begins with divine injunction- sanctifying and honouring the Lord- 1 Pet. 3:13;
Ex. 34:5-7; Neh. 9:6; etc because He has supreme control over the forces of
good and evil-Heb. 2:28.
