The
law is the principle of life and justice given to those who bear His testimony
to the world- 1 Jn. 5:6-12. He establishes His testimony in Jacob to represent
His gracious work of transformation in the life of a sinner; while He appoints
His law in Israel to demonstrate His gracious work of sanctification and
conformation in the life and character of a believer- Rm. 8:28-30.
The
law is God's standard for justice and righteousness while testimony is His
proof or evidence that shows that His law is authentic and true. The document which contains His
testimony and law is referred to as the law and testimony in the scriptures-
Isa. 8:20.
God's
throne and kingdom are founded on the standard of righteousness and justice.
This is what His law standard represents to His people and to the people of
every age and generation- Ps. 97:2. His law reveals the character of His
righteousness and justice to His people. When His people rebel against His law,
they rubbish it and the testimony that accompanies it will be lost and
rubbished - this brings rejection and judgment. This was the case with the
generation of Moses, they rebelled and rubbished the law of God and His
testimony that God had to call them '' a stubborn and rebellious generation''.
This cost them their lives in the wilderness and they could not enter the
promised land.
The
law if not upheld, attracts punishment if there is no repentance. Paul the
apostle stated in 2 Tim. 2:19 that the foundation (His law standard) of God
stands firm. It is like mount Zion that cannot be removed but abides forever;
otherwise, they will lose their credibility and testimony and become rejected.
